Many a time I’d be in search of Joe, in the early hours or 5 minutes before kick off in Watford on a wintry Sunday morning.  And endless searches more often than not, led me to Luke’s.  Joe and Luke would say goodbye on Luke’s doorstep and Joe would frantically be changing for football in the back of the car on the journey there!  He never gave away what they’d been up to.  Thank god for the network of mums - I was always able to track Joe down.  

And time and time again, Joe, where are your door keys?  Joe would always tell me that he’d left them at Luke’s.  Luke must have had a collection of at least 4 sets of Joe’s door keys.  Did they ever turn up?  Never got to the bottom of that one.

These are touching memories from when they were much younger, and not so young, you can ask Sammy!   Their close friendship touched our lives in small ways and will always be remembered.
